Multiple Cleveland House Fires Leave 2 Dead
February 6, 2016The tragic wave of area house fires continued on Saturday, leaving at least two dead in one day. The fires, both located on Cleveland’s East Side, occurred within hours of each other. The first occurred at approximately 3 a.m., while the second began around 12 p.m. The causes of the blazes are undetermined at this time.
What Causes House and Apartment Fires?
Residential fires have many causes. As we have discussed elsewhere on this blog, gas leaks, faulty electrical wiring, improper building materials, and defective appliances are frequently to blame.
What Types of Personal Injuries Occur Due to Fires?
Fires can cause a variety of injuries. First and foremost, fires can cause burn injuries ranging from minor to fatal burns. Individuals in a burning house or apartment may also suffer harm from smoke inhalation, which can be just as deadly as the fire itself. Others may sustain physical injuries and trauma as they hurriedly attempt to flee a deadly blaze.
Who Is Responsible for Ohio House Fire Injuries?
The answer to this question depends on the specific fire. In many circumstances, a business or individual may be liable for causing a fire. For example, an injured victim may be entitled to compensation when a company’s defective product malfunctions and ignites the fire, or when a maintenance worker negligently repairs wiring or a gas line.
In other circumstances, a party may be liable for injuries even though they did not cause the fire itself. Property owners who have a contractual or legal obligation to provide adequate fire safety measures may be liable for injuries if they have failed to meet their obligations.
