Keep Your Family Safer With This Free and Simple Consumer Safety ResourceMay 21, 2014
General Motors’ disregard for consumer safety has once again garnered national attention, mere months after the manufacturer was exposed for using a defective and deadly ignition switch despite the availability of an effective alternative. This time GM is recalling nearly 2.5 million vehicles with serious defects, including seatbelt defects and airbag defects that could result in vehicle safety devices malfunctioning in a crash.
As we have previously addressed, consumers should not be subjected to this profits-before-safety mentality of manufacturers like GM. You have the right to purchase a safe product, and you have a right to expect your vehicle and its safety features to function properly. If you or a loved one are injured because of a defective automobile or other consumer product, you should contact an experienced product liability lawyer to discuss your options.
But the best option, of course, is to avoid injuries in the first place. While no one can fully shield themselves from the dangers of day-to-day life, thanks to a helpful website you can keep abreast of all of the latest recalls so that you can replace any defective products that you may own.
The site, Recalls.gov, compiles recent recalls issued by multiple federal regulatory agencies (e.g., the Food and Drug Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Environment Protection Agency, among others). This government-owned and -operated website provides up-to-date information about the latest product recalls, including both motor vehicle and consumer product recalls and food and drug recalls. Keep in mind, however, that Recalls.gov only provides information regarding products that have been recalled; many defective products are never recalled and pose a hidden threat to you and your family.
We hope that these consumer safety resources help prevent at least a few product-related injuries. However, if you or a loved one is injured by a defective product, speak to an attorney immediately.
