Making a List, Checking it Twice

December 7, 2014

With Christmas right around the corner, the product liability attorneys at Lowe Scott Fisher Co., LPA are preparing for the holidays just like you.  But, having seen firsthand the damage to person and property that defective products can cause, there is one way that we prepare for the holidays that may be unlike anything you do.

The Recall Test

Regular readers will know that we strongly recommend individuals search Recalls.gov and manufacturers’ websites for product recalls.  Whether you are buying an appliance, hunting equipment,  or anything in between, it is always important that you do everything in your power to ensure that you are using a safe product.  And if you would not want an unsafe product for yourself, you definitely would not want to give one to a loved one!

In the last week alone, numerous recalls have been issued for products that you may find yourself buying for your son, daughter, or other little one in your life.  A bicycle and a remote-controlled airplane have been recalled this month because both products cause risks of serious personal injury due to manufacturing and design defects.  Some unfortunate people may never know about these defects until it is too late.

The good news is that, by taking just a few minutes, consumers may be able to prevent injuries to themselves and their loved ones.  Whether you buy one gift or a hundred, in less than twenty minutes you can free internet resources to make sure that the gifts you are giving have not been recalled.  While this method does not necessarily mean that all of the products on your list are defect-free, you will at least be assured that you are not giving a gift with a known, dangerous defect.

Have a safe and happy holiday!
