Ohio Airbag Recall Lawyers: Takata Recall Expands After Latest Reported Death; Updated Recall List

In what at this point can only be described as a consumer safety nightmare, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that a tenth person was killed by a defective Takata airbag in late December. In the latest incident, a defective airbag exploded upon deployment, propelling metal shrapnel into the vehicle cabin and striking the victim in the neck. Local authorities and the NHTSA have confirmed that the victim died of injuries caused by the shrapnel.

Takata Recall Expansion 2016

Prompted by this most recent death, Takata has officially announced that additional airbag inflators are considered defective. With this announcement, the NHTSA expects an additional 5 million vehicles equipped with the acknowledged defective inflators will be recalled. Volkswagen, Audi, and BMW initiated the first wave of the recall expansion on Wednesday when the automobile manufacturers recalled approximately 1.7 million vehicles.
