Ohio Product Liability Lawyer Investigating Trek Bicycle Injuries

Following an incident that left one rider quadriplegic, Trek Bicycle Corporation recalled nearly one million bicycles on Tuesday.  According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Recall Summary, “An open quick release lever on the bicycle’s front wheel hub can come into contact with the front disc brake assembly, causing the front wheel to come to a sudden stop or separate from the bicycle, posing a risk of injury to the rider.”  In three known incidents of malfunction, riders have suffered quadriplegia, facial injuries, and a fractured wrist, respectively.

With a full 900,000 of the recalled products having been sold in the U.S., owners of Trek bicycles are advised to cease use of the bikes and bring them to a Trek dealer for the necessary replacement parts.  The recalled bicycles, model years 2000 through 2015, can be identified by their black or silver quick release lever on the front wheel hub.  The lever on recalled bicycles can be opened far enough to come in to contact with the bicycle’s disc brake assembly.
