Ohio Product Liability News: 1.3 Million Bicycles Recalled Due to Injury Risk

October 17, 2015

Thirteen bicycle manufacturers issued a combined recall of approximately 1.3 million bicycles in the U.S. and an additional 250,000 in Canada and Mexico due to a product defect that can lead to serious personal injuries for riders.  Specifically, a release lever on an affected bicycle can come into contact with the bicycle’s front disk break while the bicycle is in use, creating a risk of sudden breaking or wheel separation.

While the manufacturers behind this recall report only one incident that ended in injury, readers may remember that the defect involved here is quite similar to the product defect that led to the recall of 900,000 Trek bicycles in April of this year.  The Trek bicycle recall was initiated after a rider was left quadriplegic following a similar lever/disk break malfunction.
